Singapore GE 2020: PAP new face Ivan Lim - What Are The allegations about his past behavior
Singapore GE 2020 and Ivan Lim-What's The Claim For His Past Action
The controversy surrounding Mr. Lim, one of the 27 new People's Action Party (PAP) candidates introduced last week, will take place several days before the nomination day on Tuesday (30 June). Party activists were concerned that the issue would cloud the ruling party's campaign for the July 10 elections.
42-year-old Lim, who was expected to be stranded in the Jurong GRC and deployed in the constituency, had previously responded to elitist behavior and humility accusations in a party statement early on Saturday. "If I win, I've decided to go well and serve," he said.
After Mr. Lim was nominated for Wednesday, several social media reports blamed him for his elitist actions and arrogance as commander of state services, among others. They were made by people who claimed to know him in NS, college, or work.
But some others who knew Mr. Lim defended him online. On Saturday, a video appeared on social media where three colleagues discussed his personality and qualities.
Mr. Lim first publicly accepted this claim in a party statement. “I always want to accept and learn what I can do better. Keep this experience in mind and do my best to prove myself to the voters and all Singaporeans.”
Lim said in the first statement that the allegations of being involved in a bribery case involving a business in Brazil were "fully unfounded and untrue."
In the social media era, accusations can easily become viral like a forest fire and destroy the accused unless the accused can return quickly with a powerful counterargument rather than boiling for a few days.
